ED teaching 11 December 19
Teaching today involved an introduction to retrieval medicine.
Will, Sinead, Elise and Emily took turns at referring patients to a retrieval service, managing the referral, and giving phone advice for:
- bradyarrythmia requiring chemical pacing
- complex metabolic mayhem (hyperosmolar hyperglycaemic state with corrected sodium >170mmol)
- inappropriate intubation for polymorbid frail patient requiring palliation
We then ran a workshop on how to package patients for retrieval/moving to CT.
Simulation involved consolidating the packaging skills learned in the workshop, moving intubated patients from bed to bed, and escalating haemodynamic support for a patient with faecal peritonitis.
Well done everyone!
Extra special thanks to Belle for concocting some vomit for Kayne’s NGT
