FACEM/sENIOR responsibility

  • iMed Radiology print reports to the printer in the the “Crazy Room” (the office opposite the resus area/flight-deck)

  • the ED consultant goes through the reports, and signs/dates/sorts them for actioning:
      1. normal results are returned to the ED clerical staff for filing
      2. abnormal results for patients who were admitted, must be separately batched and returned to the ED clerical staff for sending to the relevant inpatient team to ensure appropriate actioning :- the clerical staff will have their own process for doing this
      3. abnormal results from patients discharged from ED - these remain our responsibility :- take appropriate action

JUNIOR MEDICAL OFFICER responsibility

  • micro reports arrive in the ”Micro Reports” box above the printed in the Crazy Room

  • junior medical staff go through the reports, and signs/dates/sorts them for actioning:
    1. no growth reports are returned to the ED clerical staff for filing
    2. positive growth triggers a review of the medical record to determine if appropriate therapy was instituted; if treatment is clinically equivocal or suboptimal, a phone call to the patient +/- the GP should occur; the action taken should be documented
